Tapping Screws

Tapping screws have a sharp tapered tip and hardened thread designed to cut their own mating thread directly into sheet metal, plastic, and wood without pre-tapping, nuts, or inserts.

Thread Cutting Mechanism: As the screw is driven, the hardened thread form displaces and cuts into the substrate, forming a close female thread that grips tightly and develops immediate holding force without secondary thread preparation.

Type Variants: Thread geometry and tip profiles are optimized for substrate hardness, with type A for thin sheet metal, type B for thicker stock, and self-drilling types that eliminate even the pilot hole requirement.

Application Scope: Widely used in light metal fabrication, electrical enclosures, HVAC ductwork, automotive interiors, and sheet material assembly where eliminating secondary operations reduces production time and cost.

Materials and Standards: Produced in carbon steel and stainless steel to DIN 7976, ISO 1481, and ANSI B18.6.4, with zinc plating and stainless options for corrosive environments.
