Set Screws Manufacturers

Set screws are headless threaded fasteners that apply radial clamping force from the tip end, locking gears, pulleys, and collars to shafts without any protruding head that would interfere with adjacent rotating parts.

Headless Profile: Installation flush with or below the component surface eliminates interference with surrounding moving parts, enabling use in assemblies where head clearance is zero and surface protrusion is mechanically unacceptable.

End Geometry: Cup, flat, cone, and dog point tip forms are available, each optimized for different shaft materials and holding requirements, from soft surface protection to hard-edged positive positioning on hardened shafts.

Application Scope: Used for gear and sprocket fixation, mechanical stop positioning, collar locking, and fine clearance adjustment in machine tools, power transmission components, and automation assemblies.

Materials and Standards: Produced in alloy steel and stainless steel to DIN 914, DIN 916, ISO 4026, and ISO 4029, with hex socket and slotted drive options.

Industry knowledge

Better Fastener Industry Co., Ltd. manufactures headless set screws for shaft locking, collar retention, gear and sprocket fixation, and fine positioning in machine tools, power transmission assemblies and automation equipment. Our range covers hex socket and slotted drives with cup, flat, cone, dog and oval points, produced in alloy steel and stainless steel to DIN, ISO and ASME/ANSI dimensional standards.

As a Set Screws manufacturer, we build each order around the shaft material, holding requirement, drive access and corrosion environment, then confirm the standard, point form, thread size, length and finish before production.

What We Manufacture in This Range

Set screws are fully threaded, headless fasteners that apply radial clamping force through the point. Because nothing protrudes above the mating component, they suit assemblies where a bolt head or nut would interfere with a rotating part, a sliding surface or a zero-clearance bore.

Our production covers the established point geometries and both drive families. Hex socket set screws are the default for higher torque and recessed access; slotted set screws remain common on older machinery, adjustment screws and low-torque retention where a flat-blade driver is preferred.

Point Forms and Where They Fit

  • Cup point — knurled cup edge bites into the shaft for the highest resistance to loosening; the standard choice for permanent or semi-permanent shaft locking.
  • Flat point — full contact face for frequent adjustment and for hardened or thin-walled shafts where indentation is not acceptable.
  • Cone point — seats into a V-groove or drilled dimple for positive axial location and repeatable re-setting.
  • Dog point — cylindrical pilot enters a pre-drilled hole, giving high torque capacity and clean engagement without deforming the shaft.
  • Oval point — rounded tip for soft shafts and for components that must be repositioned without scoring.

Standards and Configurations We Supply

Our set screw programme is organised by standard so that drawing numbers, inspection criteria and interchangeability stay aligned across repeat orders. Metric hex socket set screws follow DIN 913, DIN 914, DIN 915 and DIN 916, with ISO 4026 to ISO 4029 as the equivalent international references. Inch-series hex socket set screws follow ASME/ANSI B18.3. Slotted set screws follow DIN 438, DIN 551, DIN 553, DIN 926 and ASME/ANSI B18.6.2 point designations.

Standard Drive Point Typical Application
DIN 913 / ISO 4026 Hex socket Flat Adjustment screws, hardened shafts, thin-wall hubs
DIN 914 / ISO 4027 Hex socket Cone V-groove location, repeatable axial positioning
DIN 915 / ISO 4028 Hex socket Dog High-torque locking into pre-drilled holes
DIN 916 / ISO 4029 Hex socket Cup Gear, sprocket and collar locking on steel shafts
DIN 438 / DIN 551 / DIN 553 Slotted Cup / flat / cone Legacy machinery, low-torque retention
DIN 926 Slotted Spherical seat dog Swivel seating, angular misalignment
ASME/ANSI B18.3 Hex socket Flat / cone / cup / dog / oval Inch-series machinery and imported equipment
ASME/ANSI B18.6.2 Slotted Flat / cone / cup / dog / oval Inch-series adjustment and retention

Materials, Strength and Finish

Set screws are supplied in alloy steel for higher torque capacity and in stainless steel for corrosion resistance. Property class, hardness and surface treatment are matched to the shaft and the operating environment rather than applied as a default.

  • Alloy steel — heat treated for the torque needed to seat the point into a hardened shaft; black oxide or zinc plating for general machinery use.
  • Stainless steel — for wet, wash-down, food-adjacent and outdoor assemblies where plating loss would cause corrosion.
  • Thread form — coarse metric and inch threads as standard; fine pitch available where adjustment sensitivity or wall thickness requires it.
  • Length control — overall length and thread length held to the referenced standard so the screw seats fully without bottoming in blind holes.

Application Fit Across Our Fastener Range

Set screws rarely arrive as a standalone requirement. They are usually specified alongside the bolts, nuts and washers that complete the same assembly, and we supply the full set so that thread fit, material and finish stay consistent.

  • Shaft-mounted components — gears, sprockets, pulleys, collars and cams locked radially without a protruding head.
  • Machine tools and fixtures — fine adjustment and stop positioning where the screw must sit flush or below the surface.
  • Power transmission and automation — repeatable re-setting of components during maintenance and changeover.
  • Structural assemblies — paired with Hexagon Head Bolts and Hexagon Nuts where a project combines clamped joints with shaft locking.

Quality Control and Acceptance

Our quality system follows total quality management through the production process, with inspection after each operation and final inspection of finished goods against the customer's requirements and the referenced standard. In-house laboratory equipment covers chemical composition, mechanical properties, non-destructive testing and geometric dimensions.

For set screws, the characteristics that decide whether a batch performs in service are thread gauge fit, point geometry, socket or slot depth and concentricity, hardness and surface condition. These are the points we confirm at final inspection and record on the inspection documents issued with the shipment.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

A set screw quotation is only useful if it matches the joint. We prepare the configuration and price from the following project inputs, and we will confirm any point that is open rather than assume a value.

  • Referenced standard and point form, or a drawing or sample if the part is non-standard.
  • Thread size, pitch and length, including any length tolerance that matters for blind-hole seating.
  • Drive type and recess size, plus the torque the assembly will apply.
  • Shaft material and hardness, which determine whether a cup, cone, dog or flat point is appropriate.
  • Material grade, property class and surface finish, including corrosion or temperature exposure.
  • Quantity per size, batch split and delivery schedule.
  • Inspection documents, packaging format and labelling required for the receiving site.

Custom Development, Packaging and Delivery

Customized production is our core business. Our engineering team develops set screws from drawings or samples, including non-standard point forms, special lengths, alternative materials and specific finishes. Because we integrate screw, nut and washer manufacturing, a custom set screw can be supplied together with the matching Bolts and other fasteners for the same machine or project.

Packaging is configured to the sales channel — bulk cartons, retail kits, blister packs or custom boxes — with labels and carton marks set to the customer's instruction. Shipments move by sea from Shanghai and Ningbo, with air freight available for urgent requirements, and DDP delivery can be arranged where the project calls for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which point form should be used for a hardened steel shaft?

For hardened shafts, a flat point or a dog point seated in a pre-drilled hole avoids the tip deformation that a cup point would suffer. A cone point works where a V-groove or dimple is already machined into the shaft. We confirm the shaft hardness before recommending the point.

Do you supply both metric and inch set screws?

Yes. Metric hex socket set screws follow DIN 913 to DIN 916 and ISO 4026 to ISO 4029, while inch-series hex socket set screws follow ASME/ANSI B18.3. Slotted set screws are produced to DIN 438, DIN 551, DIN 553, DIN 926 and ASME/ANSI B18.6.2 point designations.

Can you produce set screws to our drawing or from a sample?

Custom development from drawings or samples is part of our standard service. Send the drawing or sample with the material, finish, quantity and any inspection requirement, and our engineering team will confirm the manufacturing route and the specification we will produce against.

What inspection documents are issued with a set screw order?

Finished products are inspected against the customer's requirements and the referenced standard, and inspection records covering dimensions, thread fit, point geometry and material properties are issued with the shipment. Specific document formats required by the receiving site are confirmed at order stage.

How are set screws packed for export?

We pack to the channel the goods are sold through: bulk export cartons, retail kits, blister packs or custom printed boxes, with labelling and carton marks set to your instruction. Packaging is agreed together with the order quantity and delivery schedule.

What is the typical lead time for a set screw order?

Lead time depends on size, material, finish and quantity, and is confirmed when the order is placed. Standard sizes in alloy or stainless steel follow our normal production schedule, while custom point forms or special materials are planned individually. We respond to inquiries within 12 hours on working days.
