ASME/ANSI B18.6.2 (T4):1998 Square Head Set Screw

ASME/ANSI B18.6.2 (T4):1998 Square Head Set Screw uses an external square head that can be driven with a wrench, making it suitable for positioning and locking applications where internal drive tools are not preferred or where strong tactile feedback is useful.

The exposed square head is easy to see, grip, and remove, which benefits equipment requiring frequent maintenance or field adjustment with sufficient clearance. This set screw can be used for collars, handwheels, fixture clamps, and light to medium-duty mechanical stops.

It is suitable for industrial maintenance, transmission accessory fixing, agricultural machinery, fixtures, and general mechanical connections. Material and finish options can be selected to maintain good serviceability in oily, dusty, or outdoor environments.

①, End type. When not specified, lag set screw ends shall be recessed. The concave end can be knurled internally or externally according to the manufacturer's wishes. The parameters of the tapered end, long cylindrical end, semi-cylindrical end, flat end and rounded end are detailed in Table 2.5.1-1.

② The angle of the end only applies to the part below the thread root, because the angle within the thread profile may change due to different manufacturing processes.

③ long cylindrical end. When the effective thread length is less than the nominal thread diameter, long cylindrical ends should not be used. In this case a semi-cylindrical end should be used.

④ Thread series and grade. Square head set screws shall be uniform threaded as specified by ASME B1.1, inch system, fine thread or 8-thread series, Class 2A. For threads with coatings, their dimensions should meet Class 2A accuracy before coating. The threads after coating must pass the basic Class 3A general gauge and Class 2A thread gauge for minimum material or stop gauge inspection.

⑤ If not specified, the screw thread size shall be accepted according to the requirements of the 21 system in ASME B1.3.

Simply put, a nut is a small metal block or disc with a round hole in the center and internal threads on the wall of that hole. Its core function is to work with an externally threaded bolt to clamp two or more components to...

  • Simply put, a bolt is a cylindrical fastener with external threads. It works with a matching nut or is screwed directly into a threaded hole of the mating part to firmly hold two or more components together. To put it intuitively, think of it as a "metal nail." However, unlike a nail that is driven in with a hammer, a ...
