ASME/ANSI B18.5 (T7):2012 Inch Series Countersunk Head Slotted Bolt

ASME/ANSI B18.5 (T7):2012 Inch Series Countersunk Head Slotted Bolt is used in inch-series assemblies where a low exposed surface is required and the head may need auxiliary positioning or light adjustment. The slot allows use of a flat-blade tool.

The countersunk head seats into a tapered recess to create a relatively flush surface, making it suitable for wood panels, decorative plates, equipment covers, furniture-style structures, and light mechanical joints. The slot can also help identify head orientation during maintenance.

Countersink angle, slot size, thread series, and surface quality should be controlled. For high-torque applications, tightening should not rely only on the slot; the nut side can be used to manage the main clamping process.

  • Now that we've covered bolts, their "perfect partner" — the nut — is much easier to understand. Simply put, a nut is a small metal block or disc with a round hole in the center and internal threads on the wall of that hole. • Simply put, a bolt is a cylindrical fastener with external threads. It works with a matching nut or is screwed directly into a threaded hole of the mating part to firmly hold two or more components together. To put it intuitively, think of it as a "metal nail." However, unlike a nail that is driven in with a hammer, a ...
