Where Plain Washers Fit in the Assembly

A flat washer changes how the bolt load enters the workpiece. Where a bolt head or nut would concentrate stress over a small contact ring, the washer spreads that load across a wider footprint, lowering contact pressure on thin sheet, aluminium, composites and timber. This reduces indentation, deformation and the progressive loosening that follows a crushed bearing surface.

The interposing disc also separates the rotating nut from the workpiece during tightening. That protects paint, plating, anodising and decorative finishes in architectural, furniture and consumer hardware assemblies, and it gives maintenance teams a renewable bearing face when a joint is opened and re-torqued.

Maintenance, Spare Parts and Serviceability

Plain washers are maintenance items as well as production components. When a joint is opened, the washer should be inspected for flattening, corrosion, cracking or loss of coating before it is reused. We supply replacement washers to the original specification so that a re-torqued joint keeps the same bearing area and hardness as the first assembly.

For captive washer assemblies and special patterns, we retain the drawing and tooling reference so repeat orders match the original part. Consumable items such as fiber washers and coated carbon steel washers are supplied in the packaging format that suits the maintenance store or the production line.

Do you supply stainless steel and brass plain washers?

Yes. We manufacture carbon steel, stainless steel and brass washers, with zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing, blackening and stainless finishes. Material and finish are selected against the service environment, the mating fastener material and the appearance requirement of the assembly.
